Serving Those Who Serve: The Orange County Supervisor of Elections Mails Military and Overseas Ballots ahead of Independence Day

Empowering Voters, Enhancing Access: A Milestone in Electoral Transparency and Innovation

Orange County, FL (July 1, 2024) – More than 600 military and overseas citizen ballots are on the way to Orange County voters serving or residing abroad.

“Reaching voters, especially those serving overseas is one of the critical things our office does each election,” says Orange County Supervisor of Election Glen Gilzean. “Getting these ballots in the mail as soon as possible ensures that anyone who wants to vote in the August Primary Election will be able to do so, no matter where they are in the world.”

In 1986, Congress passed the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), paving the way for military members, their families, and US citizens outside the United States to vote in federal elections.

The deadline to send vote-by-mail ballots to overseas military and overseas citizens is no later than 45 days before each election. For August 20, 2024, Primary Election this would be July 6, 2024. However, the Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office was able to mail these ballots out almost a week earlier.
